Music – What’s Going On – Marvin Gaye – Incredible
Posted on February 16, 2011
Such an amazing album. I was listening to a new singer who I like named Adele. I like her because she’s not like the usual new crap that passes off as music these days. Anyway, about half way through listening to her, and even though she’s pretty good, I started to feel that something was missing from her talent. I then realized that what was missing was true greatness. She’s talented but not great. That’s where Marvin comes in. I thought, you know, besides whether or not Adele is great is not important. What is important is that I need to hear some great music right now and Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On, I know, is great. And wow is it great. His voice. The music. The message. All of it. That’s what truly lacks today in modern music. It’s not talent, it’s greatness. It’s too bad, because I love music and I want to love new comers, but honestly I haven’t been moved like What’s Going On moves me and probably never will be by what’s current in today’s music. So if you’ve never heard Marvin’s album go hear it now. If you want to hear what true greatness sounds like, well, this album is it.

Random – iTunes 10. Worst. Install. Ever.
Posted on February 15, 2011
OK. So I got this iTunes gift card for my birthday and haven’t been able to use it yet. The other night I heard Coltrain’s album Blue Train and thought tonight that hey I’ve got a few minutes before I go to bed, I’ll use the gift card and get this album and listen to it tomorrow on the way to work.
So, I fire up iTunes and go to the store and the store window is blank. What? So I click out, start it up again, no go. So I go on to the interweb and sure enough a lot of people are having the same problem. OK. Easy enough, I’ll download the latest version and it will fix it. So I download it, all 80 mb’s of it and go to install it. This was literally the longest install of any software I’ve ever experienced. It actually took less time to install the Adobe Suite. It must have taken at least 20 minutes. And the most frustrating part is that it said the same few things over and over and over during the install – registering this, backing up that, moving this over there and that over here, verifying this. On and on and on. I’m not sure what it thought it was, but it wasn’t the most elegant experience of my life.
And oh, not that it was such a big surprise, it had me restart my computer just so it could make it a little more seamless for me. Give me a break. It took everything I had not to hit Cancel.
Update: To make a long story short, updating to 10 did fix the iTunes (9) store blank screen problem and I did eventually download Train’s Blue Train (which by the way made it worth the trouble).
