Quote – Thought for a lifetime
Posted on April 30, 2012Will I be a famous painter? No. Will I receive great accolades and awards from such groups as The MacArthur Foundation? No. Will I have that amazing studio in a converted 18th Century barn? No. Do I have a deep passion for painting with the desire to be great? Yes.

Quote – Thought for the day
Posted on April 2, 2012The ‘Art World’ is a world I want nothing to do with. I’m happy right where I am. If not belonging to that world translates into impoverished obscurity, than so be it. I’d rather be poor and unrecognized than rich and disposable.

Quote – Thought for a lifetime
Posted on December 17, 2011After 20 years of painting I finally realize it’s making great art that I suffer for. It’s working and re-working the canvas, taking chances, trying and failing over and over until success is reached. It’s the art that I suffer for. Making great art is not easy and can only be achieved by doing whatever it takes to achieve it.
The trick of course is being able to separate that suffering from everyday life and not let it suck you into the vortex. I think that’s the trap that many great artists fall into. And it’s understandable. Making art can be very tiring and draining. Knowing when to step back and take a break has taken me many years of experience to realize.

Posted on October 28, 2011To Netflix: If it’s money you’re concerned about, that’s not a problem. I would gladly pay what I pay for now if I could instantly stream your entire catalogue and forget about the dvd’s entirely.

Quote – Thought for the day
Posted on June 7, 2011In order of making it in the art world, and I don’t mean being successful in mastering your craft, I mean being able to live off of your craft and be celebrated for what you do takes, well, to be honest I have no idea what it takes. This is a question I will be asking myself my entire life. I suppose it’s a fair amount of talent coupled with a whole truck load of luck.

Quote – Thought for the day
Posted on May 16, 2011The movers and shakers in the art world don’t care if someone is a genius. What’s important is whether or not an artist’s work sells. Better to leave the genius part to history.

Andrew Wyeth was a great genius and not nearly as celebrated as he should have been during his lifetime.

Posted on May 11, 2011Even if I never make a dime and remain poor my entire life I still will have succeeded because I’ve lived my life.
